This week we spotted a news article in the Evening Standard claiming that British soldiers in Afghanistan are to use donkeys to transport heavy supplies normally carried by troops. Naturally we were quick to inform our supporters about this story and we were met with a wave of comments via our Facebook page creating an intelligent and lively debate among our fans. Our tweet about this was the most clicked through link we’ve ever featured on our Twitter page with 64 hits.
Following the reaction from you, our supporters, we contacted the Ministry of Defence to find out how they will handle this project and this is what they said; “The Ministry of Defence has an excellent record on the welfare of our working animals. The project is still in its infancy and we are looking at the feasibility of conducting a trial in the next couple of months. If we decide to use donkeys in this way, they will come from a reputable source and we will ensure that they are properly cared for.”
So there you have it – your opinion and views caught the attention of one of the UK’s largest government departments, the MOD. Please keep on letting us know your thoughts, feelings and suggestions through Facebook, Twitter and on our Blog – it really does make a difference.

Well done Brooke. At least the MOD are aware that you are keeping an eye on this proposal.
It's what happens AFTER the donkeys are decomissioned that concerns me most.
Well done Brooke. You do an amazing job! I know that whatever happens to the donkeys and horses being used like that, you will do what is right! I hope that the donkeys will be properlly cared for by the British Army as they should know better than some of the poor people in Afganistan. I also hope that you have the funds to help those poor little donkeys. It is commforting to know that you have your eye on them for once the war is over. Keep up the good work!

dee humphreys if it is necessary to use donkeys in Afganistan, it's good to know Brooke is keeping an eye on the situation.

Tony Gale Excellent example of how the newly developing Brooke website can involve a wide reach of supporters so quickly in an subject most of us would probably have missed.
