Taking to the streets of Limuru

After a morning session discussing equine oral examinations we embark on a full practical session helping the donkeys from Limuru village, some 7 miles north west of Nairobi.

Villagers welcome us with open arms. You can really see in their welcoming attitude that the Brooke’s efforts here are much appreciated.

The practical allows the group to refine animal welfare friendly dental care and at the same time help donkeys. Out of all the donkeys we check there is one with a huge overgrowth of the upper 1 molar.

The molar was so long it completely missed the opposite molar and every time the animal chewed it got into the opposite gum causing pain with every bite.

The owner was so happy that we helped the donkey (I am sure the donkey was even more so) and it was a great opportunity for the participants in the training to participate in the resolution of a real problem that affects so many donkeys.
