We visit the Radha Rani Kiln in Uttar Pradesh (UP) where the Brooke team have only been working since the beginning of January. It’s officially five days since ‘Spring’ began in UP but the mornings still launch with a freezing mist, and we join the equine owners crowding around a fire of sugar cane leaves burning as fast as they are stacked on.

I was fortunate enough to go to the Sixth International Colloquium on Working Equids in India in December with the theme of ‘Learning from Others’. During the event, it was very interesting to see how much ‘participation’ is still being debated – after all these decades – with the recognition that the tools are less important than just time to listen.
